PILLAR ROCK
The Pillar Rocks are one of the most famous and iconic natural landmarks in Kodaikanal, situated roughly 8 km from the main city center. Managed by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department as part of the 12-Mile Road Ecotourism circuit, this attraction features three massive granite boulders standing shoulder-to-shoulder, towering over 400 feet (122 meters) vertically out of the deep, mist-covered valleys below.
Core Features and Geography
The Rocks: Three naturally weathered, conical granite structures that slice up through the rainforest canopy. On cloudy days, the peaks appear to fuse directly into the low-flying clouds.
Devil's Kitchen & Guna Caves: The deep, narrow, and dark chasms weaving directly between the three major pillars form a series of ancient caves. This network is famously known as the Guna Caves, taking its name from a popular Indian feature film shot on location.
The Public Garden: At the base of the designated tourist viewpoint lies a well-manicured garden terrace showcasing a vibrant variety of seasonal flowers, making it a highly popular stop for family picnics.
Visitor and Travel Information
